Sapo’s 2014 Favorites

This is my end o’ the year look back at the new things I liked. TV, Movies, Music, Videogames etc. ENJOY!!!

Primus: and the Chocolate Factory

This is a “concept album” by the 90s metal group in which they do their re-imagining of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory soundtrack. It weird, fun and crazy… I love it

Slipknot: .5 The Gray Chapter

I hadn’t been a fan of Slipknot’s music since the first album. Sure, Iowa was great but I just kinda didn’t pay that much attention to it. I really like this album though. It really shows how much they have grown musically, while still having those crazy songs.

She & Him: Classics

Say what you want about her acting or the roles she is typecast into… but this chick can sing. And it’s not annoying mindless pop. It’s just good chillaxing music. Great album 😀

BABYMETAL: selftitled album

So, I was looking through my Facebook feed and I see a friend post one of BabyMetal’s music videos. I usually don’t click on music I never hear before but the name intrigued me. I watch and was confused. I cleared my head and watched again… then fell in love. Such a great concept. J-pop with metal. Nice!!!

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu: Pika Pika Fantaji (translates to Sparkling Fantasy Person)

OK, it was a complete accident that I started liking her music. Someone (once again) posted her Pon Pon Pon video. I clicked cause it looked weird and it was weird. I showed it to friends and coworkers and whilst doing that I started liking her music. It was like Gangnam Style all over again… but unlike Gangnam Style, she also had other music I took a liking to.

Weird Al Yankovic: Mandatory Fun

Newest of his albums and probably my favorite now… funny stuff

Amazing Spiderman 2

I really liked this one. As a matter of fact: I like the Amazing ones more than the Tobey ones.

Big Hero 6

The best Super Hero movie of the year. boom

Bird Man

Keaton knocks it outta the park. Such a great actor. Norton does really well too… along with what’s her face

Edge of Tomorrow. I have always been a fan of Cruise. So what if people think he is crazy. I think he is crazy too, crazy talented (and just plain crazy too)

Godzilla. Giant Monster fighting people and monsters. Non-stop thrill ride and fun for the whole family.

Guardians of the Galaxy. Fun space people guarding the galaxy. Non-stop thrill ride and fun for the whole family

Interstellar. mind was blown about 20 times in this movie

Lego Movie. Funny stuff and awesome pop culture references. I didn’t think I could ever hate Batman but I did when I watched this movie and it was great.

Tusk. Probably my favorite movie of the year. I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. It was way more emotional than I thought it would be.

The Walking Dead. this year the season started off with a bang. It ended pretty good too. Sure, there were a few things that I wish would have happened differently (or not at all) but it was still a solid first half of the season.

VGHS (Video Game High School). I gotta say, this show is one of the funnest things ever. If you like games and you can get past taking video games too seriously then you will enjoy this. This season was pretty dark at times but I still loved it.

Community. So much emotion and change this season. It was a good short season though and it felt like a great return to the classic Community I always loved.

Gotham. Some people like to hate this show. I personally found it interesting. I like seeing what Gotham was like before Batman. It gives me somewhat of an answer to a question I always had: “How bad do things need to be for a Batman to protect a city?”

How I Met Your Mother. It has all come to an end now. This entire time people have been wondering who the baby momma is. Turns out it was this one chick they introduce in the beginning of the season but still…. there were a ton of funny moments in this season.

Sharknado 2. Classic SyFy channel garbage that is more fun to make fun of than it is to watch.

South Park. I really enjoyed how they made this season into one kinda continuous story. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are evil, funny genii

Captain Toad

Fun puzzle game… it’s so charming and original and beautiful. If you have a WiiU then buy this one cause it is absolutely great

Smash Bros WiiU

OK, this is a must buy and not just for WiiU owners but for everyone. The best Smash game ever imo.

Smash Bros 3DS

I have always wanted Smash on the go and this is a great Smash game. Maybe not as good as the WiiU one but still great.

Bayonetta 2

I didn’t play the first one but this game is so much fun. Smooth combat and ultra stylized gameplay. It’s a really legit beat em up. If you grew up playing games like Battletoads or Double Dragon then you should feel right at home here.

Minecraft PS3

I know this game has been out for years everywhere else but here’s the problem: I don’t have an Xbox 360 and I hate PC controls. I do play games on my PC but only the ones with controller support. Anyway, I am not going to explain why this is a great game… the reason I do love the console version is caus eme and my daughter can play together 😀

Mario Kart 8

Once again, this new entry on the WiiU of this franchise is probably my favorite in the franchise… with Double Dash being a really close second (dem character specific special items doe). So fast, so furious.

Shovel Knight

The moment I saw this game I fell in love. The moment I played it, I knew our love was true. Looks like an old school game, plays better than an old school game. Buy it on whatever device you can or wait for it to come out for your device cause it will happen.

Mighty Gunvolt

plays and looks like Megaman… nuff said

Hyrule Warriors

Never played a Dynasty Warriors game… still have no desire to do it. I played this and it was/is fun. But since I know these characters and locations, I actually care about playing it.

BOOKS (I know this didn’t come out this year but this are my favorite that I experienced for the first time)

ReadyPlayerOne RD 1 finals 2

So good… thanks to my friend (incoming name drop), Evan, for hooking me up with this one. I had been wanting to read this for a long time but my life is sooooo busy. Luckily I got a hold of the audiobook version and it changed my life 😀

and that’s all of them, I think. Opinions? Comments? Let a ninja know 😀
