Let me start off by saying that I love both games. They are both really and truly amazing and you should play both… repeatedly. This blog is full of spoilers so if you haven’t played them BOTH then don’t read this blog…. thanks 😀
Lettuce start with Last of Us
Last of Us is a game about a man (voiced by Troy Baker) who loses his daughter. The actual gameplay starts and you are in a world that you are not familiar with and must fight to survive because you just so happen to have a younger female with you that you are transporting to a place because you were promised something that you didn’t think you could have (in this case, it’s a cure for a disease that humanity needs). As the game progresses, this girl becomes like a daughter to you. In the end, your character ends up being the bad guy that didn’t want to give up the girl to save humanity.
And now, Bioshock Infinite
Bioshock Infinite is a game about a man (voiced by Troy Baker) who loses his daughter. The actual gameplay starts and you are in a world that you are not familiar with and must fight to survive because you just so happen to have a younger female with you that you are transporting to a place because you were promised something that you didn’t think you could have (in this case, it’s the promise to have all your debts wiped clean). As the game progresses, you realize this girl IS your daughter. In the end, your character ends up being the bad guy that made this evil place that you have been running from the entire time.
Here is why I liked Bioshock Infinite more:
It was in a setting that we had never seen before… sure, the Last of Us had beautiful set pieces and it looked amazing but we’ve seen post apocalypse before. I had never seen a world like this and it was so unbelievable yet amazingly believable. People have said many things about the combat in both these games. They claim Bioshock’s gameplay is inferior to Last of Us. I disagree. The first person perspective actually helped me get more immersed into the world and the experience. It was like I was playing as me being Booker. I honestly think that the only reason people are not liking the gameplay in Bioshock Infinite is because it is a First Person game (with shooting)… the over saturation of FPS games in this console generation has turned us all off to this type of game. Put that aside and you can realize how much of a gem this game is. I loved the Skyrail and the Vigors. I loved the inter-dimensional traveling. The story in this game to me is better… sorry. It has twists and turns and it messes with your brain. It makes you think about it for about a week or so afterward. It sticks with you and you research it and you want to play it again. Not just to experience it again but so you can pick up on clues and have “ah-haa” moments. In the end of the game you realize you are the bad guy… one and the same. In the end of Last of Us you are bad because you want to save her over the world but it’s still justifiable.
In the end of the day though, this is still just my opinion and my preference. If you liked Last of Us more, then you are not wrong… this is just about me. Thanks for reading 😀
